Cambodia Gambling Dens
There is an interesting story to the Cambodia gambling dens that reside just across the border from next door Thailand, where gambling hall wagering is not allowed. Eight gambling dens are based in a relatively small area in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This group of Cambodia casinos is in a prime destination, a three to four hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the two largest gambling centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling halls do a thriving business with Thai laborers and tourists from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very couple of Westerners. The astonishing capital accrued from the gambling dens ranges from seven and a half million dollars to more than 12.5 million, and there are a few restrictions constraints for gambling den ownership. Ownership is assumed to be largely Thai; however, financial sources are vague. The borders are officially open from 09:00 to 5:00 p.m., and though visas are allegedly necessary to cross, there are ways around this, as is true of most borders.
The initial Cambodia casinos opened in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were forced to close in 1998, leaving only 1 gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a docked ship gambling den, highlights 150 slots and 60 tables. The Naga river boat never closes with forty two tables of mini-baccarat banque, 4 tables of chemin de fer, 10 of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The 1st gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in the late nineties and the Golden Crown soon opened. A total of 150 slot machine games and 5 table games at the Golden Crown and 104 slot machines and 68 tables at the Holiday Palace. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains 300 slots and 70 tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slot machines and 96 gaming tables, including eighty seven baccarat (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. In addition, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slots and 66 of the familiar gaming tables, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the 8 gambling dens in Poipet, again in a motel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slot machines and 97 casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an all-around vacation and hotel compound that highlights a number of amenities aside from the gambling hall, which houses 10,000 square feet of one hundred and thirty slot machines and 88 table games.
